WHY CARTRIDGE VALVES?

Cartridge technology is currently simplifying the design of hydraulic circuits everywhere, not least because compactness has become such an important feature in any modern electrohydraulic control system.

Comatrol’s NCS system offers a complete selection of functions fully able to meet the demands of modern hydraulic applications, including:

· 2 or 3 position hydraulically and electrically operated directional controls with 2-3-and 4-way connections.

· Pressure controls

· Flow controls

· Overcentre valves

· Proportional controls

· Logic elements

· Standard and custom valve housings

In addition to an exclusive NCS system, Comatrol also offers a wide range of cartridges interchangeable with the leading makes currently on the market.

For some time now, Comatrol has also adopted ISO standards relating to cartridges for normalized cavities, which are available to purchasers on request.

Comatrol cartridges and manifold blocks can be installed both on mobile equipment and in industrial systems.

THE NORMALIZED CAVITIES SYSTEM

The system of cartridges and cavities developed by Comatrol represents a considerable step forward in manifold blocks valve technology, bringing benefits of optimized design, reduced costs and a minimized toolage requirement.

With a single cavity able to accommodate a variety of control valve cartridges (directional flow, pressure, on/off or proportional), the inventory costs for standard housing are cut at stroke.

Different solutions are possible using NCS cartridge, which can be installed either in a special housing or in a standard housing for in-line connection, or fitted to an ISO CETOP 03 housing.

The Comatrol program includes the following normalized cavity size: 04-06-12-16

Standard housing:

· 2-3 and 4-way connections

· port size G1/4 G3/8 G1/2 G3/4 (BSP)

· each single cavity formed with three simple tools, giving users the facility of customizing housing and block to their own specifications.

CUSTOMIZED MANIFOLD BLOCKS

With makers of plant or machinery able to meet the needs of the moment by producing monoblocs on an

ad-hoc basis, costs are cut to a minimum, with the added advantage that the solution adopted can be especially “clean” in design.

Comatrol valve blocks provide a comprehensive solution to problems inherent in the control of a hydraulic axis; any combination of cartridges is possible, and the package can be designed and realized either by Comatrol or by the users themselves.

Blocks are made by Comatrol on completely automated machines utilizing CAD-CAM.

For users wishing to undertake their own design work, the option also exists of purchasing the Comatrol CAD library.

A technique staff expert in hydraulic schemes and applications is at customers’ disposal either for design or after sales service.

PROPORTIONAL VALVES AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL MEDIA

There is an increasing requirement in modern machines for work cycles to be controlled by personal computers, PLC and joystick.

With the adoption of simpler production lines operating cycles based on fast/slow axis control, the trend is now moving inevitably away from traditional microswitches and mechanical stroke limiters, and rapidly toward the greater simplicity of proportional valves for various applications:
